Diquís Gold Pendant of a Predator
This gold pendant (700–1550) from the southern Pacific region of Costa Rica depicts a feline gripping a human arm in its jaws. The violent scene underscores the predator’s ferocity and symbolic power. Such ornaments were worn to channel strength, instill fear, or invoke the animal’s spiritual dominance in ritual contexts.
