Hunting Scene

This Small Hall mural fragment (c. 1590) shows a nobleman chasing deer across a hilly landscape, accompanied by dogs, birds in flight, and a distant castle framed by patterned borders. Created for a colonial elite residence, it adapts European Mannerist hunting imagery to a New World interior. The scene aligns local power with imported aristocratic ideals of leisure and control over land.
