Interior of La Merced Church

The oldest church in Colombia, built in the 16th c. on the site of Cali’s founding in 1536, this adobe-walled nave reflects early colonial architecture. Its wooden ceiling and gilded altarpiece honoring the Virgin Mary express Spanish devotional aesthetics. Still in use, it anchors cc. of spiritual and civic life.
