Reclining Young God
This sculpture (5th c. BC) from the Parthenon’s east pediment depicts a reclining youthful god, possibly Dionysos or Herakles. His relaxed pose and flowing cloak suggest divine ease and grandeur. Positioned to observe the rising sun, he embodies calm after cosmic struggle. The ambiguity of his identity invites reflection on the interplay between divine power and human heroism in Greek mythology.
