Cryptoporticus

This cryptoporticus or vaulted passage (2nd c. AD) formed a covered walkway beneath Hadrian’s Villa, used for discreet movement and protection from sun and rain. The rhythmic light filtering through its windows highlights Roman mastery of engineering and atmosphere, merging functionality with an almost monastic serenity.
