Temple of the Emerald BuddhaWat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram

1424
Temple of the Emerald Buddha was founded by King Rama I in 1782–84 within Bangkok’s Grand Palace as the royal chapel of the Chakri dynasty. Its gilded roofs, chedis, and cloister murals of the Ramakien frame the Emerald Buddha, a small green stone image revered as the palladium of the kingdom. Seasonally re-robed by the king, the figure binds Buddhist devotion to state ritual, making the complex both sanctuary and emblem of Thai identity.
