Rodel Tapaya Exhibit Urban Labyrinth
This 2018 exhibition presents ten new works by Filipino artist Rodel Tapaya, known for fusing folklore, myth, and social critique into layered visual narratives. His paintings draw on oral traditions and everyday scenes, weaving stories that feel both ancient and contemporary, intimate and collective, and rooted in the shifting realities of Filipino life.
Tapaya explores themes of migration, displacement, and community, reflecting the tensions, uncertainties, and hopes of people on the move. By showing how myth and modern urban life intertwine, he reveals how old tales still shape today’s experiences, using familiar legends to comment on the human condition in a rapidly changing world.
